My Abu Dhabi Life #7
It's been a bit of a busy time so I'm afraid things have had to give a little as far as my blog has been concerned. There was a time when I'd totally freak out about not having a blog post to go out as per my regular schedule, but these days I'm learning to be a bit more relaxed about it..! There just never seems to be enough hours in the day for everything, especially with a child in the mix! But anyway, here I am finally, with a quick update as to what's been happening...
I've been really enjoying my yoga lately and have been making sure that I get to do that as regularly as I can. I'm a bit of a fan of The Room as they're all just so lovely and it's pretty close to home for me. I also see some pretty amazing skies on my way to class which is an added bonus, I do love a pretty sky and nature can be so amazing!
There are a few things I need to get to grips with, mainly I just need to get myself more organised and stick to my schedule to get the important things done when my son is at nursery instead of running to the shop for a few things while I'm on my own because it's quicker, these are the everyday tasks that are stealing my time!
I also tried Brazilian Drum Beat yoga which was a first for me. It's run by the lovely Sasha Quince of Let's Go Yoga and is a bi-annual event. I wasn't sure what to expect but it sounded fun and something a bit different, and I was glad I went along.
It was much less about the alignment and posturing than normal and more about letting go through dynamic movement for stress relief and relaxation, and it was a lot of fun. There's a lot of interesting information around about how powerful a tool drum beat can be in resonating with your heart and assisting relaxation too. I found the class to be a really lovely, safe and inclusive environment. I think my younger self might have felt a bit self-conscious, but the fact I didn't at all I think speaks volumes to the type of atmosphere this class promotes and creates.
There was also a week where my son was ill which was pretty awful being stuck in the house and not being able to go anywhere, but we made it through and thankfully he's all back to normal again now.
My mum and my aunt have also been out visiting which has been great, and we managed to squeeze a few fun things in - visiting the Mother of the Nation Festival and an afternoon tea at the Hyatt Capital Gate.
If you didn't get down to the Mother of the Nation Festival this year, then do make a mental note of it for next year as it is in a fab location right on the Corniche beach and really is well worth going to, just don't make the same mistake we did and go too early - many of the activities don't really get going until into the evening and it'll be much cooler then too!
As for afternoon tea at the Hyatt Capital Gate, again, I'm afraid I didn't even know they had an afternoon tea until recently, but it's actually not only a bit of a bargain, but also really rather good. If you've read any of my previous posts on my staycation there or my spa review then you'll know I've developed a bit of a soft spot for the place, but with good reason. The afternoon tea was delicious, especially owing to the fact the scones are always freshly baked to order and they're soft and buttery, none of these rock hard excuses for scones you sometimes find elsewhere!
In my own personal struggle with hours in the day I suppose I've also been thinking a lot about social media, and the pressures on myself there. So, rather than get too caught up in it all and feel the need to post something just because it's what some expert is telling me I should do, I've been much more relaxed about it all and posting when I feel I have something good to share with you all. I'm afraid this also means that my instagram stories aren't getting as much use as they once were, but honestly speaking it's important to me to maintain a balance between doing what I do and enjoying it, and also living my life at the same time. I think this is one of the big struggles of blogging and social media that isn't really spoken about, but for me, it's important to come back to the reasons of why I do this, and to make sure I am still staying true to that. I think it's very easy to get caught up in always trying to be bigger and better, but actually I think there's not a lot to be gained from that other than burn out and exhaustion! Staying true to my own values and doing what works for me is where it's at, and thankfully, most of my readers and followers seem to be pretty happy with that too - so thank you as always for your support! :)
Finally, I'm super excited that we are off on holiday again next week to Sri Lanka and I've got a feeling it's going to be a good one, so I'll let you have all the info once we're back!
