If today was your last…
I’m not really one for New Year’s Resolutions, of course there are some things I would like to change or improve, but I guess it has always seemed a bit weird and last minute to me to set resolutions at New Year. Things are changing all year round so wouldn’t we have a better chance of making changes and living the life we really want to if we review where we’re at throughout each year?
One of the things that impacted me most from Sunday school as a child was the verse “Live every day as if it were your last”. I thought about this a lot. How was it possible to live every day like this, to make every day count? Some days are unavoidably boring, maybe going to school or work or doing other menial tasks that we cannot avoid in everyday life. I began to realise that of course every day cannot be one long party, but the concept remains. Live every day as if it were your last means to live without regrets – don’t go to sleep on an argument, don’t put off today what you can do tomorrow and other such so-called clichés. Simply put, to me it means life’s too short. Live your dreams. Make them happen while you still can. Don’t allow yourself to be in a position to regret the things you haven’t done - get out there and do them, and change the things you don’t like.
So that’s it really, I’ll keep it short and sweet on this New Year’s Eve. Instead of setting a resolution that may well be broken or long forgotten by the time the end of January rolls around – why not try to keep your eyes on the prize all year round, and go out and get what you want from life. No regrets.
Happy New Year to you all from Abu Dhabi! Best Wishes for a great 2014!
